Explorer was built in 2003 for, as the name suggests, exploring parts of the ocean that very few boats of this size can reach.
Built by Ocean Dynamics, this 35ft Rib was to set a new record crossing the North Atlantic with Bear Grylls. They completed that crossing in a record 15 days and as quoted by Bear in 2003 it wasn’t the simplest of adventures: 'There were undoubtedly more moments of jeopardy out there than I had ever anticipated and, in truth, if I had any idea of how frightened all of us would be at stages, I would have thought twice before leaving.'
Since the record Explorer has been relatively lightly used, in comparison to crossing the Atlantic! She was used on the Thames River for a period of time and then purchased by her current owner who used her as a commutating vessel to his private fort in the Solent.
Fitted with a single Caterpillar 3126 450hp Diesel engine on a Twin Disc TDJ130 water jet, Explorer is able to give you a top speed of 35 knots (at reduced fuel levels), she holds 3,750 litres of fuel which can easily give you a range of 1,000 nautical miles at cruising speed.
